An erupting volcano can be a fearsome sight, even to your adventurous Beaker Creatures! Safely re-create this terrific event on a smaller scale as lava spills over the sides of your homemade volcano.

Know this!

When an acid (vinegar) and a base (baking soda) meet, they create a gas called carbon dioxide. This creates a bubbling effect that will wow your little ones!

Caution: Perform this experiment only under adult supervision, and near a sink for easy cleanup.

Let’s experiment! 

You will need the Beaker Creatures Magnification Chamber to make the experiment you see below. If you don’t have that, any container will work!

First, pour 1/2 cup of vinegar into the chamber.

Add a food coloring of your choice to the vinegar. Just a few drops!

Next, add 1/2 cup of water to the mixture.

Add 1 squirt of dish soap to make the eruptions move slower and last longer.

Last, add 2 tsp of baking soda to the chamber.

Watch the lava erupt from this mini volcano!
