Did you know that the United States of America has a nickname? Sure does! More than 200 years ago, “Uncle Sam” was dubbed America’s nickname! Best known for his “I Want You” picture with the pointing finger, Uncle Sam is a true American Icon. Enjoy Memorial Day with this cute and fun DIY Uncle Sam craft! This craft is fun to construct and makes for a great and patriotic decoration for the house! While putting it together, add a little history lesson and discuss the importance of the Fourth of July with your little ones.
You will need:
- White paper plates
- Crayons or paints
- Craft pom poms
- White cotton balls
- Construction paper
- Sticker stars
Color the paper plates for your Uncle Sam’s face and draw (or glue) on his features. Make the face in the upper third of the plate, leaving plenty of room for the chin and beard. Give Uncle Sam whatever kind of expression you want!
Have the children glue on the cotton balls for Uncle Sam’s beard. Cotton balls are perfect for this as they make the beard big and fluffy!
Fashion his hat and his bowtie onto his head. Have fun decorating them with as many stars and stripes as you want! Use this part of the craft to teach basic patterns and shapes!
We Want You! To enjoy your Fourth of July weekend!
